In an effort to bring rain to Capua, the Primus a prestigious competition for the greatest of gladiators is announced and Batiatus enters his champion Crixus and Spartacus against Solonius's Theokoles, an indestructible 10 foot tall god of the arena.

Can Oenomaus train them sufficiently enough to win their battle? Did you know Edit. Trivia Theokoles fought in the style of Dimachaerus, which incorporated two swords and little to no armor.

Such a style was selected for only very skilled Gladiators, as fighting without a shield was very dangerous. A part of Theokoles' back story was, that he fought with two swords and no armor simply because he enjoyed getting cut.

Which is supported by the numerous scars in his face and body, and themselves support tales of his being cut over a thousand times in the arena without falling. Goofs When Magistrate Calavius announces the Primus, he pronounces his own name wrongly. He says to the crowd, "In the name of my forefathers I: Titus 'Cavalius' present to you the final event User reviews 3 Review.

Top review. Good entertainment, intriguing teamwork, boomerang story but too many arcs, emotional and surreal ending. What's in the shadow of the giant? Training, humiliation and redemption. It seems Spartacles was ready for his first Labour. Slay the beast. Win the crowd. Make Batiatus rich.

Earn your freedom. Get Sura. At the climax of the battle, Crixus suffers a mortal attack from Theokoles, eliminating his ability to continue fighting. As Spartacus takes on Theokoles alone, Crixus reaches for his nearby helmet and reflects the sunlight off of the helmet, directing it at Theokoles' eyes and disrupting his vision. Seizing this advantage, Spartacus strikes Theokoles' legs, immobilizing him, and repeatedly swings his sword into the.

As the match comes to a close, rainfall finally showers upon the city, putting an end to the extensive drought. The crowd cheers Spartacus' name as he revels in his victory. This victory eventually earns him the title "The Bringer of Rain". Ilithyia : " Do you fear being in the arena with Theokoles? Ashur : " Ovidius is cousin to the Magistrate I will have satisfaction!

Oenomaus : "My failure: your lesson. His first cut, dealt when I thought him vulnerable, and pressed my attack unwisely. His next assault came as I fell back, to regain position. Yet these wounds are nothing. A game of blood, to amuse the crowd. And when he tires of playing, he will move to separate your head from your neck. I lived, because I survived longer than any man that stood against him. Some herald that as a victory. I am not among them. Spartacus Wiki Explore. Explore Wikis Community Central.

Crixus' love triangle is starting to heat up and affect him in battle, Batiatus continues to struggle as he desperately fights to pay off debts and rival groups oh and lets not forget Spartacus ' quest for freedom and to be with his wife once again. With Spartacus' story being fairly cut and dry for now it appears that the writers have taken a lot of interest in developing the character of Crixus. When we first met the Hero of Capula he seemed like the typical Ludus brute who sought glory and battle above all else.

As his story has progressed however we've discovered quite an interesting character who is now torn between two and potentially three lovers. Crixus has been fighting so long that he's forgotten what it means to be free and Spartacus is finally showing him that there is more to fight for than just glory in victory. While Crixus yearns to be with Naevia, his sexual relationship with Lucretia is starting to have its problems. The fact that he essentially couldn't "get it up" this week in her presence speaks volumes about the emotional turmoil he's going through and may have been in part the cause of his failure in battle.

In another scene, Ilithyia requests an audience with Crixus and has him stripped nude while she admires his body. Both Naevia and Lucretia were forced to look on as the man they so desire is touched by another. It's a messed up situation to say the least and it is clearly starting to wear Crixus thin. Manu Bennett has been doing a great job in the role.

Especially in conveying Crixus' emotional struggles with both Lucretia and Naevia. Batiatus has always seemed like a fairly noble man who does his best to run an honest Ludus but we discover that his vengeance is swift and vicious.

When he discovers who had hired the hit men he has the man's entire family slaughtered and their home burned to the ground. We can only assume that Barca took the young child left behind to a safe place. The hired goons are also linked back to Solonius who continues to be a thorn in Batiatus' side. There is an interesting war brewing between both their houses and I expect we'll see a lot more gladiatorial competition between the two before the season is done.
